J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: Autumn Sheep Fair, Sale of Pedigree Rams & Famales & the Second Sale of Breeding Ewes & Gimmer Shearlings. Saturday 16th September 2023

North West Auctions held its Autumn Sheep Fair of pedigree Beltex, Texel, Blue Texel, Badger Face Texel and Dutch Spotted rams and females, which was kindly sponsored by kindly sponsored by JG Animal Heath and Colin W Parker Agricultural Haulage.
The sale commenced with Beltex on behalf of the Northern Beltex Club, which saw the pre-sale show judged Nick Brown of the Bronic flock. He awarded the overall championship rosette to Ainstable Hopscoth from B Hall, this shearling ewe sired by Kingledores Engleburt went on to sell at 1000gns and was purchased by H Wood, Preston. The reserve champion was awarded to Wannop’s Hercules consigned by the Wannop Family, sired by Aviemore Festival and went on to sell for 1200gns to AJ Drake, Bradford. Other leading prices saw shearling ram Wannop’s Harry sell to 900gns and Wannop’s Hardball achieve 850gns. Beltex gimmers saw a good demand with B Hall selling his best to 1000gns, with others from the same good home selling to 650gns.
The Badger Face Texel society sale saw gimmer shearlings sell to 450gns for Woodies Banjo consigned by K Thomlinson, with others to 350gns from S Duggan.
The Blue Texel society show was kindly judged by I Hartley of the Pendle flock. She awarded the supreme champion to Rookie Blue Gillian consigned by J&A Gargett, this stylish gimmer shearling sired by Stonycroft Excalibur reached a final bid of 600gns. The reserve champion was awarded to Tyke’s Godiva from A&C Watson which went on to sell for 500gns.
The Dutch Spotted society show saw the judging in the capable hands of P Parker, Lochlad who awarded the overall champion to C Harding with their ewe lamb Dustland Gigha, after much competitive bidding this lamb sold to the top price of the day of 2200gns. The reserve champion was also awarded to a ewe lamb, Damson Grasmere consigned by M Rowlandson which sold at 700gns. Shearling ewes saw a top price of 1000gns for Highclose Fergie, consigned by Eminson &. Stock rams saw Tiptop Diablo consigned by A&J Guthrie achieve 900gns.

The second sale of breeding sheep saw buyers in attendance keen to secure additional and replacement stock.

Mule shearlings sold to £195 from M&YS Barker with others at £190 from JS&KM Wilson & Sons, £180 T Sharp, the stronger end of shearlings £160-£175 with farming sorts £140 - £160. Texel X shearlings sold to £180 and £172 from S Bland. A consignment of Millennium Bleu shearlings from W Stamper sold to £205.
Mule ewes sold to £150 for 1 Crop from T Sharp who sold others at £138 with 2 crop from A Brown achieving £138 and £135 from FI&ME Little, other pens of mule ewes generally £115-£125.
Texel 1crop ewes from IL Dixon sold at £198 with others at £175 from R&AC Harper. 3 crop Texel X from WI Burrow & Son sold to £135.
A single Suffolk 1 crop ewe from M&J Greenwood sold at £200.

The next sale of breeding sheep is the Lakeland Fair on Saturday 21st October.
